Any fire prevention suggestions for our homes?

It’s fire prevention month once again in the Philippines. But, why do I hear fire truck sirens often lately? I don’t think we lack awareness, do you?

Last year, according to this article, we had a total of 8,000 fires nationwide. Though the number seems high, they report it has been going down. Probably because of “The ‘Makiisa, Makialam, at Makipagtulungan Upang Sunog ay Maiwasan’” campaign.

If you want to keep your homes safe, click here. And if you encounter a problem, call 117, our emergency hotline, immediately.

My one advise to prevent a fire is: “To keep anything that produces fire outside your some!”

What’s your fire prevention suggestion?

Budget Transparency in the Philippines?

At the end of this month the Philippine government, particularly the Department of Budget and Managemet, will launch a website called “Budget ng Bayan” (Budget of the Nation)Its purpose is to inform users where all the taxpayer‘s money are going.

I just hope and pray that the Philippine Government will be truly transparent when it posts their government spending. People can only view what is approved by the editor. And when this website is up and running, how can we be sure that everything in it if for real?

What are your thoughts? Will you now eagerly pay your taxes when you know where exactly your money is going? Or is this website another waste of taxpayer’s money? Will there ever be complete and honest budget transparency in the Philippines?
